EGR 450 -- Manufacturing Controls Project
IEC-61131-3 Application to Test Procedure
August 4th, 2000
By: Wade W. Bernreuter

Purpose:  To apply the various languages available in the IEC-61131-3 standard to a water heater test procedure.  The implementation of the different languages are necessary to complete the test procedure.  The programmable logic control that is used in order to apply the array of languages is the available from  SixNet.  The test procedure to be applied is specified as the "Storage Temperature Limit" as defined in ANSI Z21.10.1 and is more commonly known in the industry as the Buildup Test.

Components of the project:

The test procedure(ANSI Z21.10.1):

The hardware:

The software:

The testing is performed with the Sixnet hardware and IsaGraf software.

Noticeable in the photo is the gas meter with encoder on its face, a water meter, manometer,
water solenoid on the outlet, and the Sixnet programmable logic control hardware encased.
