Stress analysis on Bobcat Pins
For this analysis, we will be looking at the pins at points A, B, D, and G. This is due to the fact that the forces on pin C are the same as those at pin B, and the forces on pin F are the same as those on pin G. All of the pins on the Bobcat are 1.25 inches in diameter as can be seen on the AutoCAD drawings.
At pin A, we found that the total reaction force that pin A contributes to the system is 3564 pounds (see force analysis). Since the area of the pin is 2.45 square inches, the shear stress in the pin is found to be 1454 psi. Similarly, the force applied by pin B was found to be 3529 pounds. This results in a shear stress of 1440 psi. The force applied by pin D is 1573 pounds, and the shear stress in the pin is 642 psi. The last pin, pin G, applies a force of 4470 pounds, and has a shear stress of 1824 psi. None of the pins have any axial stress on them because none of them have any axial force applied to them.
